The abundance of weather information available to today’s pilots can make it difficult to screen out non-essential data, focus on key facts, and correctly evaluate the risk from a given set of circumstances.  This Guide uses the Perceive Process Perform framework to help general aviation (GA) pilots develop skills in obtaining appropriate weather information, interpreting the data in the context of a specific flight, and applying the information and analysis to make safe weather flying decisions. 

The goal is to:

Perceive weather hazards that could adversely affect your flight.
Process this information to evaluate risk and identify options.
Perform by acting to mitigate or eliminate the risk.

The guide is organized by the three phases of flight:

PREFLIGHT
	Preflight is the time for making overall strategic decisions.  The pilot obtains weather information, evaluates its potential impact, and develops a weather flying plan.

IN-FLIGHT
	During the in-flight phase, the pilot monitors the actual weather, evaluates the need for changes to the weather flying plan, and implements tactical weather decisions to avoid adverse conditions.

POST-FLIGHT
	The post-flight phase is the time to review various weather aspects of a just-completed flight, and identify “lessons learned” about weather and safe weather flying.
